Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the English Teachers' Understanding of Formative Assessment at MAN Manna South Bengkulu. The research method applied here was qualitative approach. The participants in the current study were two EFL teachers who have been teaching at the school for more than 17 years. The first teacher was coded as T1 while the second teacher was coded as T2. The instruments used were interviews, and observation checklists. The results of this study showed that T1 and T2 could provide accurate answers during the interview. Moreover, T1 and T2 also showed a good performance during teaching. However, based on the interview and observation checklist, T1 demonstrated better understanding than T2. It can be concluded that overall, the English teachers at MAN Manna South Bengkulu had a good understanding of formative assessment. the researcher recommends the EFL teachers to join teacher training and seminar to improve their pedagogical knowledge, especially in assessment since it influences the outcome of learning.
