Abstract

Education is one aspect that plays an important role in building a nation. It is a basic need for every individual to advance in all aspects of life, especially improving the quality of Human Resources (HR). The general objective of this research is to find out whether there is a significant difference in the effect of students' Integrative and Instrumental motivation on Reading Skills. In the results of the hypothesis obtained the value of sig . ( 2 - tailed ) is 0.000 < 0.05 . Based on these results, it can be concluded that the Null Hypothesis (HO) is rejected and the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. In addition, there is a significant effect on the reading comprehension of class VIII SMPN 06 Bengkulu City students. The results of this study indicate that most students learn English because of integrative motivation. They study English to understand the people and their culture. Based on the findings of this study, several relevant and useful implications of motivation are recommended to increase students' motivation.
