Abstract

This research aims to analyze the influence of Brain Gym Against Increasing Short-Term Memory in light mentally disabled children age 8-9 Years Old at the Disable Elementary School of Dharma Wanita Persatuan of Bengkulu Province. This type of research is an experimental study with a quasi-experimental method. the population in this study were all mild mentally retarded children from grade 1 to grade 6 totalling 52 people consisting of 18 women and 33 men. The final sample or object studied was 14 people divided into 2 groups, namely 7 experimental groups and 7 other control groups. Data analysis techniques with run test to see differences before and after in the experimental group and the control group. Brain exercise is very helpful in moving the limbs, coordinating movement, skills, and helping the learning process and so that it can improve memory skills, especially for children. The results showed that brain exercise was able to stimulate the hippocampus so that it could affect short-term memory abilities in mildly mentally disabled children. Short-term memory ability is an ability to remember information for only a few moments or remember information for 30 seconds. When doing posttest Mention and remember numbers 110 from the front and 10-1 from behind, but not only with numbers that actually can recognize letters and colors. respondents in the experimental group were faster and smoother and recalled the given digits.
