Abstract

The problem in this research were identified lingusitic features related seignificantly to human’s sexes that influences the use of language and interprete things differently between male and female. Then, gender is also related to psychological emotion and mental characteristics that influence some aspects for human life like politeness, grade, and language learning, included learning foreign language, and potency in language skills. The purpose of this research is to investigate possible differences both male and female in writing fiction based on gender and identify characters of each gender among students who write fiction under the theme of locality. The research method is qualitative analysis method. The result tends to focus on difference possibilities and character of male and female student writing fiction.The respondent of this research were sixth semester student of English Education Study Program of IAIN Bengkulu. In academic year 2018/2019. The data in this research were collected by analyzing students’ writing fiction by using cards as instrument. The result of this findings are similarities and differences in both grouped of writers. The differences is in choosing topic, female prefer to choose emotional topic while male writer choose general topic and the genre choosen by female student were romance while male choose general topic such as history, friendship and law of custom. There are also found similarities that the total of figurative speech used by male were 86 ( writers) and female were 95 ( 7 writers) it means that there are no significance differences in using figure of speech. Another similarities is in sentence structure, 4 of 5 male use complex sentences and 5 of 6 female writers also use complex sentences.
